Founded in 1871, the Chicago Cubs are one of the two remaining charter teams of the National League (the other team being the Atlanta Braves). As of 2010, the Cubs have not won a single championship in over 100 years, with their last World Series title won in 1908. Thus, they hold the record for longest championship drought among all teams in the history of North American professional sports. But don’t get the wrong idea. The Cubs are formidable competitors, with a number of impressive titles under their belt, including 5 combined division titles, 16 National League Pennants, and 2 World Series titles. This Chicago franchise has also been home to many baseball greats, including such baseball legends as Andre Dawson, Buck O’Neil, Ernie Banks, and many others. Considering that they won three of their division titles during the 2000’s, the Chicago Cubs may soon emerge from their championship drought as the best team in the MLB.
